The inverse problem concerning the magnetic-field structure of a solar active region is solved. Tangential-field directions prescribed by fibril orientation are used as the initial data. The problem is shown to have a solution determined up to a factor common to the total distribution, both in terms of the potential approximation and in the case of a force-free field. Examples of field calculations for individual chromospheric structures are presented.
