IT is well known1-3 that the density of the upper atmosphere at heights between 190 and 1,200 km shows a semi-annual variation, with maxima in April and October, and minima in January and July-the July minimum usually being the deeper. During 1967 the semi-annual variation was particularly large3-5, and it is of interest to know whether this large variation is persisting into 1968.
