The author introduces one kind of image compression technique, previous pixel algorithm. It is chosen to accomplish the image compression in the IHW CD-archives. While not offering the maximum compression factor among all possible techniques, previous pixel compression does offer the advantages of being extremely simple in concept and fast in speed, "on the fly" decompression, at the same time yielding typical compression factors close to two.
