Galaxy-galaxy interactions trigger intense bursts of star formation and large gas inflows into the nuclear region that will ultimately feed the SMBH. A natural consequence of the hierarchical scenario for massive galaxy formation is the existence of multiple dust-enshrouded SMBHs in the merger remnant. AGN represent the best tool for identifying SMBHs, as they trace the active, observable phase of SMBH growth. However, despite large efforts made in the last decade, observational evidence for dual AGN is rare. Here I present an overview of recently discovered examples of AGN pairs in interacting systems, with particular emphasis on the results obtained by X-ray observations.
