It has been long recognized that the solar wind and its entrained
magnetic field are fundamental to the creation of planetary
magnetospheres. Pioneer 10 has established that the outward supersonic
flow of the solar wind continues to a heliocentric distance of at least
57 AU, far beyond Pluto's aphelion distance.
