An explicit expression is derived for the overlap integral X ≡ ∫0∞φe(ν)φa(ν)dv of two Doppler-broadened line profiles, φe, φa, involved in selective photoexcitation of an absorber (a) by an emitter (e), in terms of specified emitter and absorber rest wavelengths, atomic numbers, temperatures, velocities and internal turbulent velocities. Examples of its evaluation are given for some cases of photoexcitation by accidental resonance (PAR). The relationships of variously defined "Doppler widths" are clarified in the Appendix.
