New spectroscopic determinations of the abundances of the light elements lithium, beryllium and boron in old metal-poor stars are described. It is shown that 6Li, Be and B are probably made from spallation of oxygen by cosmic rays in the early Galaxy, whereas 7Li is a product of nucleosynthesis in the hot big bang phase of the Universe as predicted on the basis of the standard big bang model.
