The characteristics of small bodies (asteroids, comets, and planetary
satellites) in the solar system are examined with reference to probe
studies (particularly Phobos-2). Particular attention is given to the
nature of Phobos and to the characteristics of Chiron, the asteroid that
is most remote from the sun.
