A critical analysis of some methods used for the determination of the mean radius of the Martian cloud particles is carried out. It is shown that at an early stage of the 1971 dust storm the clouds contained particles with radii in the range of from 1 to 20 microns. In the period of the strongest activity of the dust storm, October-November 1971, the mean radius of particles was about 10 microns and at the final stages about 1 micron. The scattering volume coefficient was about 2 x 10 to the -5th/cm at the early stage.
