RE0751+14 is the brightest of a new class of intermediate polars discovered by ROSAT. Its soft X-ray spectrum is dominated by a blackbody-like component with a temperature of about 50 eV, reminiscent of that seen in the strongly magnetic polars. In analogy the soft component probably originates from an accretion-heated surface region around the white dwarfs magnetic pole(s). We propose to do high resolution X-ray spectroscopy of RE0751+14 to investigate in detail the soft spectral component. Resolving spectral features will provide very valuable information on the emission mechanism and the white dwarf atmosphere. It will be vital to find the physical parameters which rule the production of the soft X-ray component in soft intermediate polars.
