H1504+65 is the hottest white dwarf star known. Its atmosphere appears to be devoid of H or He, perhaps from mass loss during several cycles through the red giant phase. If so this star reveals directly the products of nuclear burning in the core of its progenitor. A high resolution spectrum can identify the elements in the photosphere. If present, the detection of Ne and its abundance will provide important information on the physical conditions in the core.
