The powerful winds of Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars generate strong X-rays via shock processes and also serve as an important source of chemical enrichment of the interstellar medium. We propose to obtain a high resolution X-ray spectrum of the colliding wind shock binary system Gamma Velorum (WC8 + O8), containing the closest WR star known. The spectrum will be rich in emission lines, providing information on mass loss parameters and shock geometry as well as metal abundances that can be used to test evolutionary models of massive stars.
