The photospheric abundances of the chemical elements which are observed in the coronal spectrum, in the solar wind and in solar energetic particle events, are reviewed. Elements which can be measured in the solar upper layers and whose abundances were revised since Anders and Grevess are discussed: helium, neon argon, iron, carbon nitrogen oxygen, fluorine chlorine, scandium titanium.
