The Fraunhofer lines in the spectrum of integrated sunlight are shown to
have an asymmetry similar to that in the spectrum of the solar-disk
center. It is shown that the asymmetry varies greatly with line
strength, and is practically independent of the lower-level excitation
potential, the degree of ionization, and the atomic weight.
