The present study is concerned with correlations between electrostatic shocks and related auroral phenomena. Electrostatic shocks represent small regions of large perpendicular electric field. They were discovered by Mozer et al. (1977) in electric field data from the polar-orbiting S3-3 satellite. It is believed that they are responsible for ion acceleration and for discrete auroral arcs. The data base is examined, taking into account electrostatic shocks, ion beams and conics, and electron energy spectra. Attention is given to spatial distribution, electron associations, S shocks, real shocks, and a model of electrostatic shock distribution.
