The paper describes the comparison of HF vertical ionosonde records at Huancayo, VHF backscattering radar echo power maps at Jicamarca and the VHF amplitude scintillations at Huancayo during the nighttime hours in the month of March 1974. The heights of strong scattering regions observed on the ionograms at Huancayo corresponded very well with the heights of the backscatter echoes on VHF radar at Jicamarca. VHF radio scintillations were very strong during periods of scattering layers observed simultaneously at different altitudes. The irregularities causing spread echoes in the ionograms, backscatter echoes on VHF radar and the scintillations of VHF radio beacons occurred in the E or the F region wherever there existed a strong plasma density gradient with height.
