Meteor Showers: Periodic Comets, Meteor Showers: Minor Planets, Comet 1986 Viii Machholz

Scientific paper

A search was carried out, in the catalog archives of the Meteor Data Center in Lund, Sweden, for meteors associated with the theoretically predicted, but previously unknown, Carinid and κ-Velid meteor showers of comet Machholz, and the δ-Leonid and Canis-Minorid meteor showers of asteroid Phaeton. Results of the search support the existence of the indicated showers, and therefore, the existence of all eight meteor streams of comet Machholz and all four meteor streams of asteroid Phaeton. This result provides evidence to support the authors' dynamic models of the corresponding meteor swarms.
