In 1996 we started a seeing survey of a number of existing and potential solar observing sites using solar scintillometry. This paper reports the result of the first year of that survey. It confirms earlier reports about the superior observing conditions of lake sites. I also describe the first results of atmospheric structure constant (C(subscript n)(superscript 2)) probing using a solar scintillometer array.
