The paper proposes a simple method for determining the polarity of the IMF (from or to the sun) according to the behavior of recurrent geomagnetic disturbances in the course of the year and in the solar cycle. An analysis of phase relations in the Bartels format of geomagetic disturbances makes it possible to retrieve the polarity of the IMF in recurrent high-speed streams in the past.
