The paper examines the problem of the reconnection of thin flux tubes in
the region of the nighttime cusp as well as the daytime cusp for
northerly and southerly directions of the interplanetary magnetic field.
The analysis is based on Syrovatskii's (1974) current sheet model and
its modifications.
