Two aggregate computer simulation models for the manufacture of high-precision mirrors are presented. Each model provides the basis for performing a systematic analysis of proposed or existing high-precision mirror fabrication facilities or equipment covering such areas as substrate material processing, blank generation, aspherizing, fine graining, and superpolishing. The models are useful for gaining insight into the process behavior by observing the steady-state characteristics in terms of system throughput over a period of time, resource requirements or usage, and stages of bottleneck in material flow.
