Scientific paper

The paper examines the role of nonlinearity in the formation of ionospheric bubbles localized along the geomagnetic field H on the basis of the Rayleigh-Taylor instability mechanism. A theoretical analysis shows that the bubbles can be considered as dissipative structures localized along the geomagnetic field at altitudes between 200 and 300 km. An expression for the characteristic size of ionospheric bubbles is obtained.
