We present a simple ``toy'' model of interacting ballistic particles,
which evolves to a self-organized critical state with dimension D~1.6 in
two and three dimensions. The model may belong to the same universality
class as the ``game of life'', and provide insight to the emergence of
scale-free behavior in extended dynamical systems such as the universe.
