An approach for multiple-station analysis of geomagnetic array data is developed, based on the observation that the observable electromagnetic fields at the earth's surface (the response space) can be approximated by spaces of very low dimension. This method is compared with transfer function methods. A statistical model using the method is demonstrated with a small five-station magnetotelluric array. The method makes it possible to separate noise into coherent and incoherent components and allows for potentially correlated errors in all measured field components.
