The possibility that much of the earth's crust is buried within the mantle is discussed. The composition of the earth's interior is reviewed and estimates of the bulk compositions of various components of the earth are given. Differentation of the earth and mantle fragments and exposed mantle are described. Models based on mineralogical data and data from the study of Venus and Mars which support the theory are presented.
