Pulsation indices obtained for each day since the starting date in 1966 indicate the occurrence of pulsations in 12 frequency bands. The pulsation indices of the year 1971 are compared with solar wind velocity data obtained with the aid of the satellites Vela 6 and 7. It is found that the pulsation indices provide a basis for the determination of the most probable value for the solar wind velocity. The approach makes use of a probability matrix.
