A detailed description is given of the morphology of auroral hiss and the morphological characteristics of low-latitude hiss observed at Moshiri in Japan are examined. Investigations of low-latitude hiss have shown the existence of two types of low-latitude hiss, including the quiet-time hiss not associated with magnetic storms and the storm-time hiss which is closely correlated with magnetic storms. Storm-time hiss can be divided into evening and morning hiss. Differences in the characteristics of these two types appear to be related to the asymmetric magnetospheric structure.
