Models of asteroid formation and evolution suggest a variety of internal structures, ranging from gravitationally bound accumulations of debris to fully rigid monolithic bodies. The NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft has provided detailed imaging and gravity data relevant to the characteristics of structural features and global mass properties. A long ridge, coplanar with a degraded trough/ridge system, and an approximately parallel surface facet suggest exploitation of a nearly global fabric by both compressive and extensional failure at significantly different times.
