PALAEOMAGNETIC data from Middle Tertiary rocks have not decisively shown any rotation of Sardinia1. Rocks of Permian age, which seemed most suitable for detecting rotations of the Southern Alps2,3, Corsica4 and the Iberian Peninsula5, were therefore collected in Sardinia in the hope of finding more conclusive evidence.
