Earth Atmosphere: Sodium
Scientific paper
The behavior of the layer of natural atmospheric sodium has been analyzed on the basis of a model that includes all the main processes (molecular diffusion, turbulent transport, and photochemistry). It is shown that the splitting of the sodium layer observed in experiments can be explained by the entire set of processes indicated; the position of the maximum of the turbulent diffusion coefficient and the shape of its altitude profile play the decisive role.
