Radioauroral pulsations at T approximately equal to 4.5 s have been observed during a substorm. They appear as poleward propagating waves. The most intense Pi magnetic pulsations occur at T approximately equal to 9 s. Using the transformation theory of hydromagnetic waves through the ionosphere, it is concluded that the radioauroral pulsations have been generated by the electric field pulsations associated with intense poleward propagating hydromagnetic waves. Polarization characteristics of magnetic pulsations observed on the ground are also shown to be in agreement with this interpretation.
