Independent balloon-borne observations of H2 O-18 and H2 O-17 isotopes using solar absorption Fourier transform spectrometry in the strong 6.3 micron band of water vapor are reported. Isotopic enhancement factors with respect to H2 O-16 of 0.97 +/- 0.06 and 1.16 +/- 0.15 have been found for H2 O-18 and H2 O-17, respectively. These results confirm previous observations by mid- and far-infrared spectrometry which show no evidence of significant stratospheric enhancements.
