We have obtained spectra of Lyalpha in the z=0.692 absorption system in the QSO 3CR 286 with the FOS on the Hubble Space Telescope. We measure a column density of H I of 2 times 10(21) cm(-2) . Comparison with the published 21 cm absorption implies a spin temperature, T_s = 667K. This is similar to that implied for other high--redshift damped Lyalpha systems and higher than for clouds in the disk of the Galaxy. This work is part of the Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph Guaranteed Time Observations and is supported by NASA Contract No. NAS5--30107.
