The coupled gravitational and electromagnetic dipole perturbations of the Reissner-Nordström solution are studied and the relation between the energy of the incident, reflected, and absorbed electromagnetic waves is obtained. The effect on the polarization of the dipole electromagnetic waves is also discussed and it is shown that the radial functions appearing in the solution of the perturbation equations satisfy differential relations analogous to the Teukolsky-Starobinsky identities.
