This presentation will provide a review of CMEs (1) intrinsic properties (e.g., magnetic field structure, velocity, Mach number, etc.) and (2) processes that may occur during propagation (e.g., compressions, merging, erosion, etc.) or in the magnetosphere (e.g., preconditioning mechanisms) and that have an influence on their geo-effectiveness. Their relative importance will be discussed.
