The star count data in the K band appearing in the Two-Micron Sky Survey are used to compute the space number density of the late giants and supergiants in the immediate solar vicinity and their effective height from the galactic plane. The space densities of early-type stars are also examined using the same data. The volume emissivity and surface brightness of the galactic disk at the solar distance are derived.
