Initial Value Problem, Existence And Uniqueness Of Solutions
Scientific paper
The initial value constraints on a flat three-slice describing a spherical star joined in a vacuum are exactly soluble. Because of the flatness of the initial slice, the intrinsic degrees of freedom consist of the initial density profile and the proper radius of the star. It is found that trapped surfaces are generally present for almost all initial density profiles which are highly peaked at the center of the star.
