We reported an example of large electric field with peak amplitude of ~60 mV/m at the plasmapause near the midnight [Kim et al., 2010]. When the electric field was observed, the plasmapasue was spatially sharp. At the plasmapause, a negative-then-positive magnetic field perturbation, which is due to dawnward plasmapause current, in the meridional plane was also observed. Motivated by this observation, we surveyed the electric and magnetic field data from the Polar satellite for March-May 1997. During these periods, the Polar orbits at geocentric distances of 3-7 RE were inbound passes from the northern tail lobe to the plasmasphere in the 2100-0300 magnetic local time sector. We found 15 electric field enhancements in the form of spike signature at/near the plasmapause. Some of the electric field events were accompanied by the magnetic field perturbations. The electric fields were roughly polarized in the direction perpendicular to the ambient magnetic field and distributed from ~5.6 deg to ~27.6 deg in magnetic latitude. The peak amplitudes of the electric field events are in the range of ~2-14 mV/m. The 10 (3) electric field events were observed while the AL index was gradually increasing (decreasing). The remaining 2 events occurred during the interval of suddenly decreasing AL. We suggest that the electric field events are associated with subauroral ion drifts (SAID) and discuss whether their source is associated with magnetospheric substorm because their occurrence was on the nightside.
