The Alfvenic character of the solar wind fluctuations, at frequencies below 1.E-4 Hz, was investigated giving clear evidence for the existence of Alfven waves up to periods of the order of 15 hr, in the spacecraft frame. Fluctuations in magnetic field and solar wind velocity were studied using cross correlation coefficients, cross spectra, coherence and phase lag functions for several periods during the primary mission of Helios 1 and 2 between 0.3 and 1 AU. The highest correlations are found within the trailing edge of high velocity streams. Evidence for a radial evolution of these fluctuations is found, showing the disappearance, at the Earth's orbit, of the longest wavelengths present near the Sun, where the best examples of Alfven waves are also found.
