The ultraviolet bands of the Mars Color Imager (MARCI) instrument (aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, MRO) allow for direct retrieval of column-integrated water ice cloud optical depths. Using a multiple-scattering, radiative transfer approach (based upon the DISORT package developed by K. Stamnes and collaborators), we have produced daily maps of the atmospheric water ice optical depths for observations encompassing over two martian years: from November 7, 2006 (LS=132°, Mars year 28) through August 31, 2010 (LS=141°, Mars year 30). Our presentation employ these results in order to highlight the behavior of two specific phenomena: the aphelion cloud belt and the seasonal evolution of the polar hoods. In addition, we will provide our estimates of the systematic retrieval uncertainties as well as a brief summary of the Twiki portal (and URL) through which we are releasing the retrieval products to the general community. This work was supported by NASA through the MRO Project through a contract to Malin Space Science Systems (JPL Contract 1275776). Map-projected result of the water ice retrievals from day 120 of 2010 (Ls=84.2, Mars year=30). The scale bar indicates the optical depth at 330 nm and the latitude range is chosen to emphasize the aphelion cloud belt structure.
