Detection of the highest energy cosmic rays demands both instruments covering large areas and close attention to atmospheric and other environmental conditions at the telescope site.
Huge bubble-shaped structures emitting gamma rays have been found around the centre of our galaxy, as a result of analysis of publically available data from NASA's Fermi Gamma Ray Space Telescope. The bubbles cover around half the visible sky and their nature and origin are unknown.
Helen Walker and CWiAG and Kim Clube with the MNRAS editorial team investigate an ethical issue in publishing: does it make a difference if referees know the names of authors?
