Corona and solar wind formation by a wave energy source in a quasi-dipole coronal magnetic field is examined. In accordance with the model used, the asymptotic flow velocity increases monotonically with the heliocentric latitude as a result of an increase in magnetic field induction and divergence of the lines of force. The general heliocentric dependence and estimates of solar wind velocity at near-equatorial and near-polar latitudes are shown to be consistent with interplanetary scintillations during periods of minimum solar activity for a realistic value of the coronal magnetic field over the poles (5 x 10 exp -4 T).
