The author describes observational properties of solar flares. In the first section, statistical properties of solar flares are given briefly, with an emphasis on properties of major flares. In the second section, observational properties of individual flares, including the time process and spatial structure of flares, are investigated. And in the last section, some problems on flare energy source, flare observations and studies faced by astronomers engaged in solar physics are mentioned.
