The absorption cross section of the strongest autoionizing line of neutral mercury has been measured photoelectrically. The integrated cross section yielded an f-value of 0.53±0.03. This compares well with the f-values of the corresponding lines in Zn I and Cd I, but is considerably smaller than the value expected from dispersion measurements.
