An assessment is made of the directions and findings of intermolecular collision spectroscopic phenomena research. Such phenomena may arise in the spectra of gases through a perturbation of resonant spectra, with the broadening, shift, and modification of the line profiles of absorbing molecules, or by means of the occurrence of a pure, induced absorption which is observable in the near- or far-IR ranges, and in mm-waves. The understanding of such spectra is applicable to such investigations as that of planetary atmospheres.
