The plateaus of Mawrth Vallis show thin layers over a >200 m thick,
Noachian clay-rich unit. Mapping and evaluating the geometry of the
layers throughout the region helps to constrain the depositional
processes, and hence to understand the environment at the time of the
formation of the unit.
