A tomographic approach can reveal the threedimensional distribution of
exospheric neutrals at Mercury, information that is latent in
line-of-sight measurements of scattered light by exospheric particles.
This information can help constrain the physical mechanisms that promote
and deplete a planetary atmosphere.
