Type-2 quasars are powerful active galactic nuclei which are mostly obscured by dust (either in the accreting torus or in the host galaxy) and are difficult to select in an unbiased way. X-ray selection can miss the most heavily obscured systems if the gas column is Compton-thick, while radio selection ignores the radio-quiet AGN population. Infrared emission from the AGN is less strongly affected by the presence of dust and gas, and is thus potentially the least biased method of selection; it is, however, vulnerable to confusion with starburst galaxies. We present a method to separate type-2 quasars from starbursts via their optical-infrared spectral energy distributions, and give an example of a quasar selected with this method which is undetected in both radio and X-rays.
