There are two main processes in the tail that are proposed to link with electron precipitation for the initial brightening auroral arc at substorm onset. These are magnetic reconnection and current disruption/dipolarization process. To provide further clues in differentiating these two processes, we examine the electron energy spectrum and the associated energy flux during several events of current disruption/dipolarization and compare them with those from magnetic reconnection. It is found that the electron energy flux from magnetic reconnection is, in general, a factor of ~10 to ~100 lower than that from current disruption/dipolarization. Implications on the link between the tail process and the initial brightening of auroral arc at onset based on this comparison will be discussed.
