We propose to perform XMM-Newton observations of a very low mass star 1RXS 115928.5-524717. Given the sensitivity of XMM-Newton over previous missions, we are confident that coronal X-ray emission can now be detected in the very lowest mass stars and substellar objects known. Therefore, the objective of this proposal is to make such detection and thereby establish the existence of magnetic activity at the very bottom of the main sequence and beyond. Our target is recently discovered a previously unknown, high proper motion (approx,1.1^{arcsec},yr^{-1}) member of the immediate solar neighborhood: a very low mass star (Sp type M9) detected only during an X-ray bright flare of duration 1.5-2 hours with ROSAT All-Sky Survey.
